Jeannette Lichner on the 'S' in ESG


In this episode we speak with Jeannette Lichner, who has a diverse portfolio career which includes serving as a non-executive director on the board of the UK Financial Conduct Authority, providing corporate governance and strategic advice, and teaching leadership and governance. Jeannette is talking to us about societal concerns, particularly the social side (the ‘S’ in ESG), and shares some related research she was involved in: ‘The Everyone Economy’. She also articulates important points to focus on when trying to foster a sustainability strategy, good leadership, purpose, and the role of capital markets and finance.

About Jeannette Lichner

Jeannette has a diverse portfolio career which includes serving as a non-executive director, providing corporate governance and strategic advice, and teaching leadership and governance. In addition, Jeannette has been an executive coach since 2009, working with many people to maximise their potential.


Her non-executive roles currently include being on the board of the UK Financial Conduct Authority; Chair of Elucidate GmBh, a data-driven financial crime ratings company; a trustee of Local Trust, a community empowering charity funded by the UK Community fund; and a member of the Global Advisory Board of the McIntire School of Commerce of the University of Virginia, of which she is an alumnus. She has been the head tutor for the High Impact Leadership course for the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership and is a visiting professor at the London Institute of Banking and Finance. She is also a Companion Member of the Chartered Management Institute.

Previously Jeannette spent 20 plus years in the financial services industry as an executive where she held senior roles in numerous functions including Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Corporate Finance and Regulatory Compliance in firms including Morgan Stanley and Bank of America. That was followed by 10 years as a consultant to the financial services industry focused on governance, risk, regulation and leadership. Throughout her corporate career and now, Jeannette has been involved in start-up companies across numerous industries as an investor and advisor.
